Portrait Sculpture, Half Life- photo references of a portrait by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and other 19th century sculptors. The instruction will center around the methods of quickly blocking in and capturing a resemblance in a portrait sculpture. Emphasis will be on capturing the gesture and play of light and shadow that creates the sense of life and story in these works. The workshop will consist of a short talk on the topic, a demonstration, and constructive critiques session involving the entire class.


Materials and tools will be provided. Participants may bring their own tools if preferred.
