The Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park opens for the season on Saturday, May 25, 2024

INFORMATION

In this workshop participants will create a round format “Bas” or low relief of a portrait in profile of a person or pet/animal from photos. The technique used will be the “Pate’ sur Pate’” method favored by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in his most delicate portrait reliefs. This method consists of the building up a clay “slurry” (liquified clay) on the surface using brushes much like a painting. The workshop will consist of a short talk on the topic, a demonstration, and a constructive critique session involving the entire class.

Materials and tools will be provided. Participants may bring their own tools if preferred.
