WORKSHOPS
Sculpture workshops are co-sponsored by the Saint-Gaudens Memorial and the Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park (SGNHP). The classes are taught by the Sculptor-in-Residence. This program was initiated by the Memorial in 1969 and is the oldest artist residency in the National Park Service system.
Upcoming
During the summer months, workshops ranging from clay modeling and mold making to landscape painting are held regularly at the Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park and online. Programs for local youth include a weeklong STEAM camp, integrating the sciences, math, and the arts. We also support school-group visits by funding transportation grants. 2026 Sculptor-in-Residence
Heidi Mortensen
Heidi investigates displacement, loss, connection and memory through sculpture. Holding an MFA in Sculpture Dimensional Studies from Alfred University, New York, and atelier training in figure sculpting from the Barcelona Academy of Art, she creates detailed work in clay, glass, metal, fibers, and resin that examines the precariousness of the places we call home and delves into the mutable realm of remembering. This is her first year as Sculptor-in-Residence.
Heidi Mortensen lives and works in New Orleans, LA.
